SEPTEMBER NEWS

We have had such a fantastic start to the new school year in Year 1! The children have settled in beautifully and are embracing all the new routines with incredible positivity and enthusiasm. It's been a joy to see them so ready and eager to learn.
This week's indoor PE session has been a huge success, with a focus on gymnastics. The children have been practicing different movements and balances, and it's been wonderful to watch them work together so well in pairs, helping and encouraging one another. Their teamwork has been a real highlight!
In our Enquiry lessons, we have been exploring materials. The children worked together in groups to sort various materials based on their properties, using a fantastic range of new vocabulary to describe what they observed.
In Writing, we have started our new text, Little Charlie. We are so impressed with how quickly the children have taken to the story, already joining in with words and actions as we retell it. Their ability to remember and act out the story is truly brilliant. In Maths, we’ve been focusing on counting up to 10 and children have been using a range of practical resources to help them count accurately. It’s been lovely to see their confidence grow as they develop strong number sense through hands-on activities and games.
It's been a great first few weeks, and we are so proud of all the hard work and positive attitudes the children have shown. We can't wait to see what wonderful things they'll achieve this year!

OCTOBER NEWS

The children have continued with their wonderful enthusiasm and we are delighted with their attitudes and engagement across all subjects.
Last week, we celebrated European Day of Languages with lots of fun activities! We started by talking about the different languages already spoken by some of the fantastic children in our class. It was brilliant to share
and celebrate the different languages that we can speak. The children then practised saying 'Hello' in several different languages. We also had a special visitor who shared fascinating facts all about Spain! Following this, we looked at a map and flags from all over Europe. To bring the celebrations to our outdoor space, we painted flags on rocks to decorate the path in our wildlife area.

We recently started our new enquiry; How does our school change? During this enquiry we are focusing on autumn. This week, the children will be channelling their observations and producing some beautiful artwork based on pumpkins. We are excited to see their creative interpretations!

We celebrated European Day of Languages across the school this month.  Thank you to Mrs Lockwood for visiting Year 1 and sharing her stories about life in Spain.
We are so proud of everything the Year 1 children have achieved so far.

NOVEMBER NEWS

What an amazing start we have had to Term 2! The children have settled back into the classroom routine brilliantly and are engaging enthusiastically with all our learning. Well done, everyone!

This week, we demonstrated our commitment to promoting positive relationships and celebrating individuality by participating in Odd Socks Day on Monday! It was wonderful to see the children proudly sporting their mismatched socks. This simple, fun activity helped promote inclusivity and showed that we value everyone for who they are.

In Maths this week, we have been diving into the fascinating world of geometry! We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and discussing the unique properties of each one. The children are getting very good at identifying the difference between a flat 2D shape like a circle, and a solid 3D shape like a sphere. It would be fantastic if the children could go on a 2D and 3D shape hunt around the house or garden!

Our focus in writing has been on recounts. We have been using a diary entry written by a character called Little Charlie as our model text. The children have really enjoyed reciting the story and learning actions to go along with it, which helps them remember the sequence of events and language.

We have started introducing Phase 5 sounds in our phonics lessons! The children are doing a great job at remembering these new sounds. We've noticed lots of them are already spotting these new sounds when reading books from our book area – a fantastic sign of progress!

Thank you for your continued support at home.
