SEPTEMBER NEWS
What a fantastic first two weeks we have had in Year 3. The children have made an excellent transition into KS2 demonstrating great enthusiasm and Ivy Lane behaviour.
We have got stuck into our new enquiry and have had great fun exploring forces through friction and magnets, the children have been showing us what super scientists they are! In writing we have been stretching sentences and learning all about the 7 steps to speech, ask your young learner if they can recall what they all are! In maths we have been recapping place value and securing our knowledge of tens and ones.
Well done to all of Year 3 for a super return to school, we look forward to lots more exciting learning over the course of the year!

NOVEMBER NEWS
Well, it's been a great start to Term 2 for Year 3! We have started our new enquiry 'Where does darkness come from', it links brilliantly with the Hindu festival of Diwali. Great fun was had learning about this festival and how the lamps guided Rama and Sita home. We enjoyed making our own lamps out of salt dough and are looking forward to decorating them next week.
Great progress has been made in maths where we have been developing our knowledge of multiplication and division, learning and exploring the different methods we can use to solve calculations. The children have learned how much easier these calculations can be if they know their times tables, keep going with the practise at home, it makes such a difference!
In writing we are continuing to look at how to write a non-chronological report and will have a go at innovating our class text next week. Our reading text 'The Twits' has been great to read but we have all decided that we are glad that they are fictional characters - they are really not very nice and probably quite smelly!
We are looking forward to our museum trip and swimming next term, please do let the class teachers know if you are able to support us with these trips.

DECEMBER NEWS
It's been a busy end of term in Year 3. The children have been really committed to learning their times tables and have even mastered the 8 times table! We hope they are testing you at home! We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing another Roald Dahl book, 'Esio Trot' and look forward to making comparisons with our previous book 'The Twits' next week. We have enjoyed a lovely outdoor learning morning where the children displayed excellent Ivy Lane behaviour, which they should all be proud of. Finally, we were delighted to see this marvellous behaviour and focus demonstrated when we visited Chippenham Museum. We had a very informative session, learning all about artefacts and primary and secondary sources, then enjoyed exploring and observing the many artefacts on display around the museum. We hope the children told you all about it!
We look forward to getting into the Christmas spirit next week, and wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas and holiday.
