SEPTEMBER NEWS

Year 4 have made a fantastic start to the term! We have been working on school expectations and routines. As part of our enquiry we have been exploring sound and how sound travels by playing a variety of musical instruments. Pupils then began exploring pitch and how sound travels through different mediums. It has been lovely to discover just how musical Year 4 are! In addition, pupils have also been singing and practising Mamma Mia with real gusto!
We are looking forward to starting our swimming lessons on Monday, so don’t forget to bring your swimming kit and thank you to the parents that have volunteered to help support us with the walk to and from school.

OCTOBER NEWS

The past two weeks have been super busy for Y4, filled with hard work and dedication to their work.
In maths, the children have been focusing on rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. They have also been adding and subtracting using the grid method and are now very confident in doing so! Year 4 have also been really focusing on their times tables and are keen to continue practicing using TTRS at home.
Year 4 have been reading a variety of books by Helen Ward, noticing similarities between the messages within each book. The children have enjoyed looking at the illustrations and discussing their emotions towards each book.
During their writing lessons, the children have developed their ability to build suspense and include dialogue within their writing. They have done a brilliant job at applying features such as show not tell, adverbs to add detail and dramatic fronted adverbials to their independent stories.

Well done for all of your hard work the past two weeks year 4!

NOVEMBER NEWS

Year 4 have had a fabulous two weeks back, despite the wet weather!

We have begun our new writing focus; character description. If you need help writing a sentence with a simile, Y4 are the ones to ask! Our new text is 'George's Marvelous Concoction' and the hook involved Mrs Harvey and Ms Keough making a 'Go-Faster' recipe...

In maths Y4 have covered area and are now focusing on the 3,6 and 9 times tables. Regular practicing of these at home will be excellent to help Y4 become Times Table Super-Stars!

In enquiry we have begun to explore electricity and how much we use it. Our new enquiry question is 'How Can We Switch Off' and we are super excited to find out more about electricity over the next lessons.

Great start to Term 2, let's keep up the good work.
