Ivy Lane School

Hargreaves class

Our learning in Term 3 was based around the theme of ‘Marvellous Materials’ which was inspired by our science investigations into the properties of materials as well as the traditional tale of The Three Little Pigs. Our learning got off to an action-packed start when the children were tasked with working in groups to build a house for each of the pigs using straw, Lego and sticks. The children had great fun seeing if their constructions could withstand the huffing and puffing of the hairdryer/wolf!

We also learned to retell and perform the story of The Three Little Pigs and had a go at rewriting it with new characters and a new villain!

In Science, we explored the properties of different materials and wrote some brilliant riddles using our new science vocabulary although the highlight had to be when we visited AtBristol on our school trip. We blew shimmering bubbles bigger than us, watched parachutes glide down from the ceiling above us and saw hydrogen gas explode in a burst of fire in the air!!

We are looking forward to next term when we will be transported to Australia in our learning with our new theme of ‘What did the didgeridoo?’.
